Embezzlement and Misappropriation

Our firm’s embezzlement and misappropriation group is relatively new, as a formal “practice group.”  Yet, the attorneys in this group have been providing unique assistance to the firm’s clients for many years.

Jonathan Allan Klein, Thomas Hockel, Laura J. Clark and Katie Weeks have long represented clients who have had employees embezzle or misappropriate money or property.  In two particularly difficult cases, the firm was able not only to gain almost all of the misappropriated funds (in one case over $2m), but also served to assist prosecutors in securing lengthy jail sentences for those involved.  One case occurred in the District of Nevada, the other in Clackamas County, Oregon.

The firm has routinely been successful in having a temporary restraining order and writ of attachment issued, to preclude the embezzler from diverting the assets.  It is critical to act quickly in such cases, and the firm prides itself in being able to quickly, efficiently, and productively move through the complicated system of pre-judgment remedies.  In our experience, a pre-judgment remedy, more often than not, leads the wrongful party to quickly resolved the litigated matter (so as to avoid incurring legal fees and to concentrate attention on their criminal defense.)
